Islay Whisky Classics No.3 – Caol ila 1978 25yo

When i first saw this i was very reluctant to buy it , i wasn’t a big fan of the 12 and 18yo even though i was a huge Caol ila fan , i adored independent bottlings of this distillery but wasn’t of the O.b.’s apart from the NAS Caskstrength . What changed my mind was a tasting during the Feis Ile with Distillery Manager Billy Stitchell , we got to try it and boy was it good……

Caol ila 1978 25yo

Bottled at 59.4% abv , it’s a beautiful Polished Gold colour , this has everything you would ask for from a Caol ila on the nose , Smoke and medicinal , along with vanilla and a fudge sweetness . The palate pretty much carrys the theme on , along with pepper and a spiciness . There’s a cracking finish at the end , long and medicinal , Wonderful !

Definitely a late eighties , early Nineties dram !!!
