2 years on in age but only bottled a year later (2010) , i had to give this one a go after the supercharged 10yo , this one comes in at a slightly more sensible abv of 57.6% .
As with the 10yo this is a lovely Golden Syrup in colour , The first thing that hits you on the nose is the lemon , very citric , there’s also a lot of digestive biscuit , it is also maritimey , given that this is unpeated it also has a hint of smoke . The palate is very strange , it tastes peated , not Islay peated , more akin to Glen Scotia , maritime – smoked fish peated . Bizarre ! The finish is similar to the palate with a bit of fruitiness and a touch of pepper leading to a lovely spiciness . Actually as you work your way down the dram it seems to throw up new tastes . This is a slightly more sensible dram than the 10 and definitely more complex .
A pretty good Caol Ila for an unpeated one , would be a good one to throw into a blind tasting and see if anyone can get it .
