Islay Whisky Classics No.34 – Douglas Laing OMC 1973

Another Old Malt cask Bottling of a 1970’s Ardbeg , this one from 1973 , distilled in March 1973 and bottled in August 2000 , this one yielded 258 bottles at the abv of 50% .

OMC Bottling Example

Again the polished gold of a 70’s beg in colour , The nose on this one seems slightly more pronounced , huge Ardbeg-(io)dine at first , then very peaty followed  finally by fine Swiss chocolate , amazing stuff ! The palate is just as exciting , a huge Ardbeg , very chewy in the mouth but silky smooth across the palate , unbelievable ! Everything you’d expect from an Ardbeg of this era with a colossal finish , peat , iodine , creamy coffee . Brilliant !

What can you say about this ? A superb example of my favourite distillery , will they ever hit these heights again ? Time will tell……
