Islay Whisky Classics No.35 – Ardbeg 1974 Cask 3475

Bottled in 2002 for the Oddbins Chain somehow i managed to end up with 2 after chasing around for one ! Back then it was a rarity for a single cask to be released in the UK apart from the previous Committee releases .

Cask 3475 was filled on the 9th August 1974 , when bottled at 28yo on the 22nd October 2002 at 44.5% it produced only 126 bottles . Polished Gold in colour , it has a glorious nose , so reminiscent of the Provenance , citrus , creamy coffee and milky chocolate with a nice oakiness , bourbon vanilla , a waft of smoke and huge iodine . The palate isn’t as big   but  still fantastic , iodine , smoke , peat , chocolate , coffee…… a wonderful Beg ! The finish is long , sweet , iodiney and fruity !

Once again what can you say about 1970’s Ardbeg ? A time of greatness and perhaps the best whisky ever produced !
