Islay Whisky Classics No.40 – Bruichladdich Valinch “Octomore Birth”

I used to collect Laddie Valinches at one time , they did some extremely good Casks , then they seemed to be using finished one’s all the time . They used to issue them to commemorate an event (this one was for the first distilling of the Octomore Spirit) .

This was the 6th of the Valinches , From  Re-fill Sherry Cask No.988 , one of 500 bottles distilled in 1990 and bottled at 13yo on the 5th August 2003 at 60.2% . The colour is light gold (obviously not 1st refill !) but on the nose there is more than a strong hint of sherry , quite sweet – honey / fudge  – , green apples , banana and vanilla . The palate has a beautiful sherriedness about it , very marzipan , lemon drizzle cake , dried fruits and confectioners sugar / icing sugar  . it almost has a battenburg cake taste to it .  The finish is long with sherry and the cake again .

A wonderful Laddie , great balance and i suppose what you would call a great session dram .
