Islay Whisky Classics No.55 – Bruichladdich 1998 Sherry Edition “Oloroso”

From the same time as the Manzanilla Sherry Edition , Oloroso seems to be the better known of the sherry casks used to mature whisky in , it tends to produce the bigger sherry monsters than the others . Again from a 1998 Distillation and matured for 10 years , The Oloroso casks produced 9000 bottles at 46% abv .

Bruichladdich 1998 Sherry Edition 'Oloroso'

A light Mahogany in colour , fabulous legs in the glass ! You can tell straight away on the nose that this is a drier sherry , lots of dark fruits and a more Christmas Cake smell to it than the Manzanilla , a touch of orange peel as well . On the palate definitely the perverbial “Christmas Cake” , Dried Fruit , Cherries , cake mix . Also toffee , vanilla and the Laddie green fruits . The finish is a huge , dry , sherried one !

Christmas spices and fudge . This is a fantastic sherried Laddie for it’s age ,  could almost be a session dram , does not disappoint !
