Islay Whisky Classics No.56 – Ardbeg 17

Originally put together with the help of Jim Murray , this was a lightly peated version of the Ardbeg Spirit . Bottled at 40% in the UK , this proved to be a very popular version of Ardbeg .

A bright gold colour in the glass , the initial nose is of the faintest peat , there is also vanilla , orange essence malt , oak and coffee .  A light peatiness integrates with a gentle iodine on the palate , a slight touch of smoke and orange . Still quite a chewy Ardbeg for it’s low ABV , It is silky smooth across the tongue . The finish is quite long , chewy with a hint of peat , orange and chocolate .

A truly wonderful Ardbeg , a beautifully balanced classic , one just wonders what this would have been like released at the stronger abv of 46%  ?
