After yesterdays 23yo Bunnahabhain i had a look in the Whisky cupboard and found i had several more Bunnahabhains from Whiskybroker including 3 of the same cask so it would be rude not to open one……
This one is a 1989 (Distilled 20/10/1989) bottled 8/3/2013 from Hogshead 5739 at 48.2% (310 Outturn). The nose is quite closed but the Bunnahabhain spirit pushes through , the Confectioners sugar is there , there’s also a nice spiciness to it , there was once a rumour flying around that in 1989 Bunna were playing about with the ppm levels , wonder if that affects the spiciness as i’ve had it before in another ’89 . On to the palate the spiciness comes to the fore , lots of wood spices , a nice vanilla , there’s a little fruitiness to it then Apple Pie and Custard ! There’s a nice lingering finish with lots of spices .
A lovely little Bunnahabhain subtly different to yesterdays bottling , Definitely an under-rated Distillery !
By all accounts the recent network broadcasting of this series has went down very well !
According to reports it has been averaging about 1.7 million viewers per episode which to me isn’t bad considering it’s a fairly specialised programme shown on BBC Two in the middle of summer ! It has went down very well on the Social media sites , twitter was buzzing during and after the broadcasts , it’s not very often you actually get to talk to the people involve with the making of a programme , especially live ! I just hope it boosts the area tourism trade and is beneficial to the Islands involved , it seems to have raised awareness of the areas and the wildlife of that part of the world .
Congratulations to all involved and hopefully we’ll see some more of the Hebrides featured on the telly in the near future .
It Comes out on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow , the Amazon.co.uk links are……
And it has been the perfect build up to our Summer Visit , Roll on Saturday !
Welcome to our Web log of our visits to Islay in words and pictures ! We’ll be adding our first visit very soon !!!!!
